All cats are.
I stand firm that, while there are a plethora of music “Blogs” out there that enjoy stomping on the faces of anyone who dares to play in their sandbox, they’re doing as little to put new music out there as anyone. Case in point:
Now, in the immortal words of Jay-Z: I ain’t one to boast, but damn if I don’t brag. With everyone-and-their-mother deciding that 2006 was the year of Ellen Allien and Apparat, it’s easy to forget that Ellen’s true baby, meaning the cutting-edge Bpitch Control label that she’s overseen since its’ inception in her gorgeous, brilliant head, is always, ALWAYS, on top of its’ game. To wit, I’m excited as hell to apparently be the one to introduce the first full-length from BPC for 2007, which comes from the most unexpected of places-its’ own in-house promotions goddess, Damero.
Damero’s Happy In Grey (BPC 146 if you, like I, keep track of Bpitch’s ever movement the way those kids in black Route 66 Jeans used to follow the Halo numbers) is a subtle, slow-burn of an affair, and is a complete success of an electronic album composition-atmospheric-yet-vocal mood-pop pieces that can vacillate from riding-on-air wisp to heavy, thundering sub-rattling low end. This is going to be brief, but, as with Gui Boratto earlier in the year, we’re seeing a major, major electronic milestone for 2007 right here, and I know if I don’t say something this time there’ll be plenty of opportunity later. This is just one of those “you MUST hear this and hear this NOW so you, too, can fall in love” sort of opportunities.
Damero: Mope
One of the former tracks, and Happy In Grey’s opener-this gives you a good idea as to what the album has as its core: Damero’s pretty, Morgenstern-esque vocals, and an ethereal wall of pretty synthetic painting that’s obviously perfect for headphone listening. Don’t be fooled by the word “ethereal”, though-it doesn’t mean boring. I won’t get to this now, but when we run our exclusive Resonator Mag interview with Damero, we’ll put up some of the more intense, Tech-Garage sounding pieces. For now, though, take this as an audible sigh.
Damero: Right-Wrong
The album’s second track (told you, it flows and progresses as an electronic album should…Tigerbeat6 folk could learn a thing or two about that) unleashes Damero’s pop-tastic best, a cool little half-step of a minimal, vocal work-out that would, in an ideal world, be on TRL daily-it’s THAT much of a confection, and THAT well-done.
Damero’s Happy In Grey tech-pop at its finest, and you’ll be hearing more from this record shortly-not just as we write more about it, but as it grows into the electronic conscious and cements itself firmly as a standout from a label that can absolutely do no wrong in any way.
