"Love" on a RZR
I’m in a hurried rush (also apparently in the mood for unnecessary redundant repetition) as I throw the last of my stuff into various Target-brand suitcases and hustle myself off to America’s Waiting Room, aka Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport (the busiest Airport in the United States. Also, the most inept.), to catch a flight to New York.

We’ll drop in from time to time, and, in fact, you’re still owed that year’s best list.

However, I certainly didn’t want to depart without some bitterness and snark (tastes like dark chocolate) for your holiday. As such, a highly incomplete list of pet peeves of the past year:

1) Airports (see above)

2) Phones remixes of ANYTHING

3) See above, only replace “ Phones” with “Diplo”

4) These guys sounding exactly like these guys who sound exactly like these guys. I don't care if they all happen to think Voxtrot and GO! Team are good bands (they aren't), someone needs to say something. Anything. They're into this whole Tiefschwarz-without-the-Tiefschwarz idol worship of dance music...without ever. having. danced.

5) Us having not said crap about The Bronze Episode

6) Us having not said crap about anything else that we planned on writing about (and ended up…kinda…distracted)

7) Kids finding a song/band/artist/producer here first, and then porting the MP3 over to their personal blog, some sad attempt at forging any sort of appearance as a “music journalist”, and fucking HOTLINKING to our server for the MP3. Get authentic or go home.

8) Referring to The Knife as ‘icy cool techno”. I have killed for less. Also, mister Philip "Roth Sherbet" Sherbune, could you please explain exactly what the fuck an "android shanty" is?

9) The James Figurine record:

Released on Morr earlier this year, Jimmy “The Tambourine” Tamborello (better known as “oh yeah that guy from Postal Service”, less-well known but more appreciated as DNTEL)’s Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake album, under his “James Figurine” guise, was a hotly anticipated little number. Everyone wanted to see what he’d been doing in his time since becoming the reluctant glitch-pop poster boy.

Well, everyone but Trixie. Trixie wanted to do him. (Seriously. Ask her about her days stalking J-Tamb.)

Jimmy sold Mistakes as a direct result of having been exposed to Kompakt-esque minimal Tech-pop via my beloved M-Enterprises headmistress Gudrun Gut, but what he ended up creating was a sadly boring little piece of writeoffable tweeglitch that neither held intellectual or emotional interest.

Well…except for the album’s first song.

James Figurine: 55566688833

The opening and sole noteworthy moment on Mistakes, THIS is what the album should have sounded like. Lovely, blush-worthy and danceable, Jimmy put together a great clicky ode to the perils of txt love. Unlike the other songs on this album, when the beat draws itself out at the end, the repetition is blissful and cathartic, and I will never, ever, recover from the lyric, softly and subtly vocoded, “we fought face-to-face like it was the 90’s again”.

James Figurine: 55566688833 (The Field remix)

The Field, whom we here at Resonator love as fine purveyors of the high-level Kompakt pop that the James Figurine album aspired to craft, turn this into an even more blessed-out, less vocal din of noise and kicks.

So there you go-an album that shouldn’t have sucked, but did. One song, though. One. Blessed. Song.

Maybe we’ll get a DNTEL album in the new year?

Also, yes-moodiness and shoddy writing? Told ya already: Need. A. Break.

Resonator Mag: oh jimmy, ya drunk

myspace. like it was the 90’s again.

my biggest pet peeves of this year are your bitching and crappy web-design.
