Double Dose!
While Shaun has been holding down the front (bringing you you southern bread at its finest) I've been trying to finally finish my undergrad degree. I'm almost done, but hell, I decided to give you a taste of everything I've been listening to recently, but had no time to share(what good would we be if I DIDN'T do that?). So here we go, Hack's monthly selections. . . think of it as an early xmas gift.

Malente Brings You a Real Deeajay Mix

I stumbled upon this mix a few days ago and have been super impressed by it. I haven't been much for tracking down deejay sets recently as most of the "indie rock dance sets" don't have a clue about such things as, oh shit, what's it called... oh yeah BEAT MATCHING! (along with track selection flow, song keys, etc, though I've run into a few with good selection and iffy mixing at best). The other half of the spectrum being the diplo/girl talk/etc.. side of things where its all hip hop mashed up with pop songs and indie songs and, while enjoyable, I can only listen so often. There's still is sprinklings off good electronic deejay sets out there (sander, burridge, lee combs, meat katie/elite force I know have all thrown down some good mixes recently), but I haven't been as into that side of things recently.

Now I present to you: Malente from Germany.

Both the mix below and the one posted on his mypsace are killer. Spot on mixing, the "lets pretend daft punk didn't do this 9 years ago" sound that I've been slipping into, some indie mashup-ness (is that a word?) thrown in for flavour and then just good old electronic tracks to round everything out. Everything is current, nothing is recycled, and the set is spot on from beginning to end. It puts everything I've been recording recently to shame.

I don't have a tracklist on hand, but I remember Does it Offend You, Yeah? - We Are Rocksters and the Simian Mobile Disco mix of The Rapture - W.A.Y.U.H (People Dont Dance No More) both being featured (I'll get to Simian Mobile Disco in a few).

Singles, Singles, Singles!

Passions
He hails from Brooklyn and, while only having only a few singles and remixes floating around, he's quickly found his way into my playlists/setlists. A bit on the rave side with some electro hooks, killer bass line, and some chopped and screwed vocal fun. Plus.. He's from the states! Yay for more people on this side of the country making music I enjoy.

Emergency - Passions (not the best quality, but its all that's floating around).

Simian Mobile Disco
Rising from the ashes of Simian, these guys have been tearing it up with their remixes and production work. They are working on a full length album (mid-next year has been estimated) and I, for one, can not wait. Hustler might be my top track from this year (though Simain vs Justice - We are Your Friends is a close second) and has never failed to impress. While not the newest of the new, I know a lot of people haven't been exposed to it yet.

Hustler - Simian Mobile Disco.

Van She
On Modular, and having just released their EP, Van She has been making waves for a while now. They are a bit like Cut Copy in that their production work is ok, but they really shine in their remixing abilites and in their own tracks getting the remix. Presented here is the Nightmove's remix of Sex City and is my personal top track right now. It builds slowly and keeps a dancey but low key vibe to it, up until the breakdown that is, where it proceeds to build up into "throw your hands up in the air and hug your neighbor" awesome-ness (again, is that a word?).

Van She - Sex City (Nightmove Remix)

That'll do it for me.. enjoy!

While Daft Punk may not have played at our house, they certainly were being played in our cars back in 97.
